Furniture Care & Maintenance
Timber being a natural material tends to behave in response to its climates. We advise that all timber products are kept in consistent temperate environments. Please avoid temperamental climates, direct sunlight, and areas exposed to excessive moisture or humidity.
Avoid positioning your timber pieces in the direct vicinity of any heating or cooling as this can cause unnatural expansion and contraction in the timber.
If the product becomes excessively dirty, dusty or has any spills, wipe the area with a clean microfibre cloth. When necessary use a damp microfibre cloth, but avoid soaking the cloth and make sure no excess liquid remains on the piece.
Avoid using heavy chemicals and detergents (e.g. silicone-based sprays such as Mr Sheen).
The shade of timber may change over time and exposure to UV will accelerate this process.
Lacquered timber can wear after some years through general wear and tear. To upkeep the finish of your piece you may opt to get it refinished every 3-5 years which is something we can provide a quote for. We recommend a lacquered timber finish as the hardest wearing option.
Care instructions are same as above however with timber that has been oiled rather than lacquered extra care needs to be taken to avoid getting the piece wet. Liquids left on the surface can penetrate the protective layers of oil causing damage and staining to the underlying timber.
If required we recommend re-applying a thin coat of 'Osmo, Hardwax Oil' in desired finish. This can be done annually or whenever necessary to give new life to the timber and add an extra layer of protection. Alternatively, nourishing timber oils can be used to bring life back to dried out timber.

Steel, although extremely strong and durable, is not without its weaknesses. Even with a protective coating it is susceptible to corrosion (rust) if liquids are left long enough to allow penetration to the surface.
We finish all of our 'raw' steel products with a layer of protective oil and furniture grade wax as well as an anti-graffiti coating making it less vulnerable to stains and marks. This provides the surface with a smooth matte finish which is corrosion resistant.
To ensure further protection we recommend all steel products be kept dry at all times, avoid direct contact with heat, liquid, and sunlight.
We recommend applying a thin coat of 'Gilly's Clear Cabinet Wax' with a microfibre cloth annually or whenever necessary for protection and general upkeep.
To clean dust and spills, use a microfibre cloth. Avoid any abrasive cleaning products that may contain harsh chemicals. When necessary use a damp microfibre cloth to clean, however, avoid soaking the cloth and make sure to wipe clean any excess liquid.
Liquids left to sit on the surface may penetrate the protective layers of wax and oil and damage the surface.
Powder coating is a consistent coloured finishing option that is hard-wearing, durable and upon request can be suitable for outdoor use.
Finishes can be available in a wide range of colours (pending supplier availability) making it easy to select one that is compatible with any colour palette.
Avoid sharp and heavy objects on powder coated surfaces because the finish can be susceptible to scratching.
To clean any residual dust or spills, wipe the product with a clean microfiber cloth, avoiding any abrasive cleaning products that may contain harsh chemicals. To ensure longevity, try to minimize contact with liquid, heat, and direct sunlight.
Stone is a unique natural material, coming in a vast array of colours, textures, and styles.
Depending on the type of stone and its rarity the cost and durability can vary drastically.
Stone is a porous material which is susceptible to staining and scratching. Our stone products are finished with an oil-based protective coating but if necessary further coats of sealer can be applied annually for protection and general upkeep; we recommend using Lithofin stain stop tile sealer.
Be extremely cautious of any acidic liquids near your stone piece as they damage the surface and stain the underlying stone. Examples include fruit juice, wine, soft drinks, and coffee.
It is very important that any liquids are promptly cleaned off the surface of your stone to prevent any discolouration or staining.
To clean any residual dust or spills, wipe the product with a clean microfiber cloth, avoiding any abrasive cleaning products that may contain harsh chemicals.
Brass' beauty comes from its gold colouring. Although a metal, it is on the softer end and easily scratch or dent.
Raw brass will oxidise over time which causes the colour to change drastically and can cause corrosion. The drastic colour change is known as patina and can be the desired effect in some circumstances as it is a unique and extremely interesting finish.
All of our brass finishes provide moderate surface protection (unless requested otherwise).
To ensure further resistance we recommend all brass products are kept dry at all times, avoid direct liquid, heat, and sunlight.
If necessary, further coats of wax can be applied annually for protection and general upkeep. We recommend applying a thin coat of Gilly's clear cabinet makers wax with a microfibre cloth.
To clean any residual dust or spills, wipe the product with a clean microfibre cloth, avoiding any abrasive cleaning products that may contain harsh chemicals.
It is important that non-abrasive cloths are used when cleaning to prevent damage to the surface.
